It was nearly 10:30 pm when my second son woke up screaming. He’s been sleeping through the night for months now, but the Nerf gun war and dodgeball game my 7-year old son and his friend were playing in the next room proved too much to ignore.
I was unwinding from the day, just having finished hand-washing the last round of dishes. And I was intent on savoring a few hours off the clock of mom duty before heading to bed myself.
So, when I heard my 19-month old crying, I cringed.
“When do I ever get to have a break around here?” I grumbled to myself. After scolding my eldest son and redirecting him and friend towards more suitable nighttime games, I paused…
